Hello and welcome to Word Kitchen, the show where we cook up new English words and make them easy to remember. I'm Maya.
And I'm Lena. Today we're taking a walk through city life. We have ten new words about cities and daily life, and we'll use each one again and again so it really sticks.
Let's start with the word park. A park is a green open area in a city, a place where people walk, run, and play. I love our neighborhood park.
Me too. Every morning I take a walk in the park near my apartment. The park is always busy before work, full of people with their dogs.
And on Sundays, families have picnics in the park. Children play football in the park after school, and older people sit on benches and read.
Our next word is neighbor. A neighbor is a person who lives near you, in the next house or the next apartment. My neighbor is very friendly.
Mine too. My neighbor waters my plants when I am away. That's what good neighbors do.
Exactly. When we moved to our new street, our neighbor brought us a cake. A kind neighbor can make a new place feel like home.
Next, market. A market is a place where people buy and sell things, usually food. I love the market near my apartment.
Oh yes, that market is wonderful. We buy fresh fruit at the market every Sunday. The market is always full of color and life.
The market is also cheap. You can buy bread, cheese, and fish at the market for less money than in a big store. I go to the market twice a week.
Our next word is street. A street is a road in a city or town. We live on the same street, Maya.
True. Our street is quiet and friendly. In the morning, the street is busy with cars and buses. At night, the street is calm again.
Every street has its own feeling. The main street downtown is full of shops and crowds. I love walking down our street in the evening when it is quiet.
Next word: hospital. A hospital is a big building where doctors help sick people. There is a hospital at the end of our street.
Right. She went to the hospital because she had a fever. The hospital in our city is very modern and clean.
I once visited a friend in the hospital. The hospital staff were so kind. I hope none of us needs the hospital often, but it is good to know it is there.
Our next word is apartment. An apartment is a set of rooms in a building where a person or a family lives. I live in a small apartment.
Me too. They rent a small apartment near the park. My apartment is on the third floor, and I can see the street from my window.
Many people in big cities live in apartments. My neighbor lives in the apartment below mine. An apartment can be small, but it can still feel like home.
Next, crowd. A crowd is a large group of people together. A big crowd waited for the bus at the station this morning.
I saw that crowd too. The crowd was so big that the bus was full. I do not like big crowds in the morning.
Sometimes a crowd is fun, though. At the market, there is always a crowd of shoppers. And the crowd at the cinema on Friday night is full of energy.
Our next word is cinema. A cinema is a place where people watch movies. We watched a funny movie at the cinema last night.
It was great. The cinema was full. I love going to the cinema with friends on weekends.
The new cinema near the park is very nice. They show old films at the cinema every Tuesday. A night at the cinema is the perfect end to a busy day.
Next word: quiet. Quiet means not loud, calm and peaceful. Our street is quiet at night.
I love quiet mornings. The library is a quiet place to study. When the park is quiet, it is the best time for a walk.
Yes. After a noisy day at the market, I come home to my quiet apartment and relax. A quiet evening is all I need.
Our last word today is visit. To visit means to go and see a person or a place. We will visit my aunt this weekend.
I want to visit the new cinema with you. And I plan to visit the hospital this week to see my friend.
Let's also visit the market together on Sunday. We can visit all our favorite spots in the city.
Let's review quickly. Park, neighbor, market, street, hospital, apartment, crowd, cinema, quiet, visit. Ten new words about city life.
Use them in your daily life. Say hello to your neighbor. Take a walk in the park. Buy fresh food at the market. And visit us again tomorrow on Word Kitchen.
See you next time.

Use the **present perfect** (**have/has** + past participle) for life experiences when you do not say when. Example idea: I have visited the market many times. Use the **present perfect** for recent past actions with a result now. I have just bought fruit at the market, and now I have the fruit at home. Use **never**, **ever**, **yet**, **already**, and **just** with the **present perfect**. Have you ever met my neighbor? Use the **past simple** for finished actions when we say, ask, or know when they happened. I visited the cinema last night. Never use the **present perfect** with a past
