Maya

Hello and welcome to Word Kitchen! I'm Maya.

Lena

And I'm Lena! Today we talk about places. Cities, villages, and more.

Maya

Let's start with our first word: city. A city is a big town. Many people live in a city. Lena, do you live in a big city?

Lena

I do! I live in a big city. My city is loud. There are cars in the city. There are shops in the city. I love my city!

Maya

I love your city too. But I grew up in a village. A village is a very small town. Few people live in a village. My village is quiet. There are no big shops in my village. There are trees in my village. I love my village.

Lena

Your village sounds nice! In my city, I go to the library. A library is a place with many books. I read at the library. I love the library. The library is quiet too. The library in my city is very big. It has many, many books.

Maya

My village is too small for a library. But my school has books! A school is a place where children learn. I went to the village school. The school was small, but the teachers were great. I loved my school.

Lena

In the city, my school is big! My school has one thousand children. One thousand children learn at my school. That is a very big school! After school, I walk to the library. I read at the library every day.

Maya

Wow! That is a big school. When my family visits the city, we sleep in a hotel. A hotel is a place where you sleep on a trip. Our hotel is small. The hotel has a nice bed. We love the hotel.

Lena

I know that hotel! When your family comes to my city, they sleep in the hotel near my home. The hotel is close to the library. It is close to my school too.

Maya

Yes! And from the hotel, we walk in the city. The city is big, but the hotel is quiet. The hotel is nice.

Lena

My school is close to the library. I go to the library after school. The library is my favorite place in the city. I read at the library with my friends.

Maya

I want to see your big school! And I want to see your library. My village has no library, so I will take books from your library to my village school.

Lena

Maya, when I visit your village, where do I sleep? Is there a hotel in the village?

Maya

No, my village has no hotel. The village is too small for a hotel. But you can sleep at my home in the village! My home in the village is small, but it is warm. You will like my village home.

Lena

I can't wait! The village sounds perfect. So the village is quiet, and the city is loud. The village has no library, but the school has books. The city has a big library and a big school. The city has hotels, but the village has no hotel.

Maya

I like the city and the village. Both are nice!

Lena

Let's say our five words one more time. City. Village. Library. School. Hotel.

Maya

Perfect! Join us tomorrow on Word Kitchen. Bye!

Lena

Bye, everyone!

πŸ“Grammar: Like doing or want to do

Some verbs love -ing. After **like** and **enjoy**, we use verb + -ing. No **to** in the middle. Some verbs love **to**. After **want** and **need**, we use **to** + verb. A common mistake: do not say **like to reading**. Say **like reading**.
