Maya

Hello and welcome to Word Kitchen! I'm Maya.

Lena

And I'm Lena! Today we talk about food. Sweet, yummy food.

Maya

Our first word is cake. A cake is a sweet food. We eat cake at birthdays. I love cake. Do you like cake, Lena?

Lena

I love cake! Last week was my birthday. We had a big cake. The cake was sweet and big. I ate two pieces of the cake!

Maya

Tell me about the birthday cake. Was the cake big?

Lena

The cake was very big! It was a chocolate cake. Ten people ate the cake! Everyone loved the cake.

Maya

Ten people! That was a big cake! And cake with tea! A sweet cake and hot tea. I love that too.

Lena

Oh, yes! Cake is my favorite food. But a cake is big. A cookie is small. Our next word is cookie. A cookie is a small, sweet food. It is round. I eat a cookie after lunch. Do you like cookies, Lena?

Maya

Wait, I'm Maya! I ask the questions!

Lena

Sorry, Maya! But I love cookies! I eat a cookie every day. One cookie is small, but five cookies are many! A cookie is sweet like a cake, but a cookie is small.

Maya

Ha! Slow down, Lena. One cookie is enough. What do you eat with a cookie?

Lena

I eat a cookie with milk. A cold glass of milk and a sweet cookie. Yum!

Maya

Oh, yes! Milk and a cookie is perfect. Now, what about pizza? Pizza is my dinner food. A pizza is round. It has cheese and tomato. I love pizza. Hot pizza is the best.

Lena

I love pizza too! We eat pizza on Fridays. The pizza is hot and big. My brother eats three pieces of pizza. I eat two pieces of pizza. Hot pizza is the best food!

Maya

Pizza is great. And pizza is good the next day too. Cold pizza is nice!

Lena

Cold pizza with juice! And our next word is juice. Juice is a drink. We make juice from fruit. I drink orange juice. Orange juice is sweet. Do you drink juice in the morning, Maya?

Maya

Yes! I drink juice every morning. Apple juice is my favorite. I drink apple juice with my food. Juice is cold and sweet. I love apple juice!

Lena

Cold juice is nice. And cold pizza and cold juice. The best breakfast... no, the best lunch!

Maya

But first, what do we eat in the morning? Our last word is breakfast. Breakfast is the food we eat in the morning. A good breakfast is important. My breakfast is eggs and juice. What is your breakfast, Lena?

Lena

My breakfast is simple. I eat bread and drink apple juice. I drink apple juice for breakfast. A good breakfast makes me strong. I love breakfast! Breakfast is the best meal.

Maya

Ha! Good. No cake and cookies for breakfast!

Lena

Well... one small cookie for breakfast? Just one!

Maya

Okay. One cookie and orange juice. Yum! Let's eat pizza for breakfast tomorrow.

Lena

Pizza for breakfast! Great idea. Cold pizza and orange juice. Yum!

Maya

Let's say our five words one more time. Cake. Cookie. Pizza. Juice. Breakfast.

Lena

Cake! Cookie! Pizza! Juice! Breakfast! I love food days on Word Kitchen.

Maya

Me too. Join us tomorrow on Word Kitchen. Bye!

Lena

Bye, everyone!

πŸ“Grammar: Reporting what people say

When someone speaks, we can tell others about it. We use **said** to report what people said. We change I to he or she. We change love to **loved** and is to **was**. So 'I love cake' becomes 'she loved cake', and 'the cookie is sweet' becomes 'the cookie was sweet'.
