Maya

Welcome to Muse English! I'm Maya.

Lena

And I'm Lena. Today's show is all about technology in daily life. We will talk about small problems and easy answers.

Maya

Great. Let's start with a busy morning. Yesterday, I woke up late, and my phone battery was almost empty. I said, "Where is my charger?"

Lena

Oh no! A charger is so important in the morning. My charger lives next to my bed. I always plug in my phone before I sleep.

Maya

That is smart. My charger was in the kitchen. I ran to the kitchen, and I plugged in my phone. Without my charger, my phone dies fast.

Lena

Right. A phone without power is just a toy. I think everyone needs two chargers: one for home, and one for the bag.

Maya

Yes! I bought a second charger last week. Now my old charger stays at home, and the new charger travels with me.

Lena

Good idea. And after you wake up, do you check your email first?

Maya

Always! I open my laptop, and I read my email. Yesterday I had eleven new emails.

Lena

Eleven! That is a lot. I read my email on my phone. My email app is very easy to use.

Maya

Email is great for work. My boss sends an email every morning. Then I write a short email back. My emails are always short and polite.

Lena

Good habit. By the way, when I started my new job, they gave me a new laptop. It is light, and it fits in my bag.

Maya

Nice! A good laptop is a great friend. I use my laptop every day. In the morning I open my laptop for email, and at night I watch a movie on my laptop.

Lena

Same here. My old laptop was heavy. The new laptop is fast. The screen is bright, and the keyboard is quiet.

Lena

Before we go on, a quick note about the Muse English app. Every day it gives you new words with photos and clear pronunciation. You can hear this podcast, practice shadowing stories, take fun quizzes, learn grammar, and win points on the leaderboard. It is free, and it helps you learn a little every day. Give it a try today!

Maya

Let's talk about work. At the office, I type all day. A comfortable keyboard makes life better.

Lena

True! My keyboard at home is small, but my office keyboard is big. I love the big keyboard. The keys are soft, and my fingers move fast.

Maya

Do you know the keyboard shortcuts? On my laptop I press a key, and the screen changes. A good keyboard saves so much time.

Lena

I use them too. At first my keyboard felt strange, but now I love it. Every good worker needs a good keyboard and a good chair.

Maya

And wifi! Without wifi, nothing works.

Lena

Oh, wifi is life. At the airport last month, there was no free wifi. I was so sad! I asked, "Where is the wifi password?"

Maya

Airports and bad wifi, what a pair. At home my wifi is fast. I use the wifi for video calls, for email, and for my laptop.

Lena

My cafe has free wifi. I go there with my laptop, I order coffee, and I use the free wifi to work. Free wifi is the best gift.

Maya

True. When the wifi is slow, I feel nervous. I restart the box, and the wifi comes back. Wifi is like air: you only see it when it is gone.

Maya

One more thing about the Muse English app. You hear new words on this show, then the app shows them with photos and slow pronunciation. You can read the transcript, do shadowing stories, test yourself with quizzes, study short grammar lessons, and climb the leaderboard for points. It is free for everyone. Install it today and learn English with us!

Lena

Let's finish with a little story. Last night, I forgot my charger again. My phone was dead, so I could not send an email to my teacher.

Maya

Oh no! What did you do?

Lena

I opened my laptop and sent the email from my laptop. Then I found my charger under the sofa! I laughed.

Maya

A happy end! So today we learned five useful words: charger, keyboard, wifi, email, and laptop.

Lena

Try to use them today. Send an email. Connect to the wifi. Type on your keyboard. Do not forget your charger.

Maya

And remember: technology is here to help us. Thanks for listening to Muse English!

Lena

See you tomorrow!
