Listen to todayβs conversation.
Hello, friends! Welcome to Word Kitchen. I'm Maya.
And I'm Lena. Today's show is about technology. We have five new words for you today.
Five simple words about computers and phones. Let's start with word number one.
Word number one is "phone." Maya, do you have a phone?
Yes, I have a phone. I use my phone every day. I call my mother on my phone. I also text my friends on my phone.
A phone helps us talk to people far away. My phone is small and blue. Where is your phone right now?
My phone is on the table. Let me look at my phone. Oh, no! My phone is dead. It has no power.
Dead means the phone has no power. When your phone is dead, you need our word number two: "charger."
A charger! Yes. A charger gives power to your phone. You plug the charger in the wall.
Then you plug your phone in the charger. In one hour, your phone is full again. I always carry my charger with me.
Me, too. Without a charger, a phone cannot work for long. My charger is white. Your charger is white, too!
We have the same charger! That is funny. Two white chargers on one table!
Yes, two chargers. Now, word number three is "computer." A computer is a big machine.
You can work and play on a computer. My father works on his computer every day. I play games on my computer.
A computer is bigger than a phone. My computer is on my desk. I use my computer for work and for music.
I use my computer in the morning. But wait β I cannot see my computer now. The screen is dark!
"Screen" is word number four. The screen is the front part of a computer. It shows pictures and words.
I love the big screen of my computer. I watch movies on the screen. The screen is bright and clear.
A phone has a screen, too. The phone screen is small, and the computer screen is big. Touch the screen to open the app!
Let me touch the screen. Yes, now I can see my computer again. The screen works!
Great. Now our last word is "mouse." A mouse is a small thing for a computer.
You move the mouse with your hand. You click with the mouse to open things on the screen.
My mouse is gray. I hold the mouse in my right hand. Click, click, click with the mouse!
The mouse helps you control the computer. Without the mouse, the computer is hard to use.
A mouse is easy and fun. Now let's say all five words again. Phone β you call people on a phone.
Charger β it gives power to your phone. Computer β a big machine for work and play.
Screen β the part that shows pictures. Mouse β you move it with your hand and click.
Great job today! Use your phone and your computer. Don't forget your charger. Look at the screen, and move the mouse.
Practice these five words every day. See you next time on Word Kitchen. Bye-bye, friends!

**might** means maybe. We think something is possible. **must** means we are sure it is true. We see a clear sign. **can't** means we are sure it is NOT true. It is impossible. After **might**, **must**, and **can't**, use the verb with no -s. Say "he might be", not "he mights be".
