We use the passive (**be** + past participle) when we do not say, know, or need to say who does the action.
If your wallet disappears, you say 'My wallet **has been stolen**' β the thief is unknown, and that is the point.
The object of the active verb becomes the new subject. 'They built the bridge' becomes 'The bridge **was built**.'
Use **by** + agent only when the doer matters. 'Gladiator **was directed** by Ridley Scott' β here we want to name the director.
Ambition **is admired** everywhere, but humility **is remembered** longer β both are present simple passive.
