πŸ“Grammar: 8B: Reported speech β€” telling what people said

When we tell other people what someone said, we use reported speech. Use **told + a person**: "She **told me** her hand hurt." Use **said + no person**: "She **said** her hand hurt." The tense usually goes one step back: present β†’ past. "I am tired" β†’ "She **said she was** tired." The word **that** is optional. "He said **that his foot** hurt" = "He said his foot hurt." For yes or no questions, add **if**. "Are you tired?" β†’ "He asked me **if I was** tired." For other questions, keep subject + verb order, with no do or did. "Where do you live?" β†’ "She asked me **where I lived**."
