πŸ“Grammar: 5A: Past tenses - simple, continuous, perfect

**Past simple** is for finished actions in the past. *I cooked a delicious soup yesterday.* The action finished yesterday. **Past continuous** is for an action in progress at a past time. *I was cooking soup at seven o'clock.* At that time, the action was still happening. We often use them together. *I was cooking soup when my friend called.* The long action **was cooking** was interrupted by the short action **called**. **Past perfect** (**had** + past participle) is for the earlier of two past actions. *When I arrived, they had eaten the sweet dessert.* They ate it before I arrived.
